Ugh, totally not my thing. Very yeasty amber; barely any "Belgian" flavor profile despite the label, but a dry, almost sour flavor and a harsh bitterness. Rare Unibroue total miss.
Kind of watery, like something that has a long road ahead of it to become a Belgian Abby ale. It's like it's trying to be inoffensive.Which I find offensive.
So a bottle open for a day, even with a wine stopper in it,doesn't seem as good.Maybe it's worth sticking to the small bottles now that I've found a source
A great and complex mix of flavors that keep evolving as your mouth gets used to some of them. Plum, citrus, christmas spices, mild yeast tang and bitterness. Very faint hint of boozyness as well.
Scent of plum and candi sugar. Really delicious holiday flavors in this beer, with a lot of gingerbread, caramel, plum, clove, maybe some nutmeg. The finish almost wraps around to toasted coconut. It's been a while since I had it, but my memory wants to put this on a shelf with St. Bernardus Christmas Ale.
Aaahhhh a good beer from back home :) Refreshing and not too wheaty with a fruity taste. I do agree though that it ends pretty flat without any aftertaste.
Wits are still not my favorite style, but this one was enjoyably drinkable, despite being light on wheat flavor and slightly musty & coriander-forward.
Crisp, fizzy, witbier. A perfect non-champagne for a friend's birthday. Like any beer in a large bottle, it's not something I'd buy unless I were having folks over. I can never finish a bottle before it goes flat.
What I think the Stumptown Tart was trying for - not quite tart, but the Belgian wit character comes through strongly and naturally with the fruit, with a remarkably clean finish.
I like Unibroue's exploration of flavors with bottle conditioned fermentation, and they make some great beers with that style like Le Fin Du Mond. This one, in my opinion, just takes it too far. I felt like my palate was trying to fight the funkiness of the yeast (which complement other beers very well) to try to find other flavors in the beer without much success.
