Zack's Log

The perfect expression of coffee flavore in a beer.
Good for a smoked beer, but I don't love smoked beers. Nowhere near as medicinal as an Aecht
Smooth, full bodied, espresso.
Bottle at Home
Pumpkin spices but a bit bland
Bottle at Home
Great roasted malt flavors
Bottle at Home
Crappy lager
Bottle at Home
Way more bitter in Prague
Bottle at Prague
Nice crisp maltiness
Bottle at Munich
A cross between roasted malt and espresso.
Nice citrus, manageable resin.
Weird first taste, very wheaty after
Great biscuit maltiness and body and a crisp finish
Lots of cherry and chocolate, cleaner than others I've had. Doesn't show its booziness too much.
Some malt flavor. Smooooooth
Nitro Draft at Wilde Rover, Kirkland
Some roasted malt flavors, a hint of coffee on one sip, but a bit thin.
Bottle at Home
Not really lagerish... fruity malt flavors (which may just be some oxidation?). Still tasty and clean-if-a-bit-sweet finish
Bottle at Home
Solid Bavarian hefe, very smooth with plenty of banana, some clove and bubblegum, but not enough to be funky. Finish is fairly clean.
Bottle at Home
Sweet malty... verging on syrupy flavors. I prefer a cleaner malt flavor.
Bottle at Home
Maltily refreshing with a decent enough hopping
Bottle at Home
Euro lager malt flavor
Bottle at Home
Nothing special
Bottle at Home
Malty.
Bottle at Home
tanginess kind of overpowers any other flavors that might be there. clean finish and light/medium on the palate so easy to drink
Bottle at Home
Clear noble hops lead, a minor maltiness mid-palate and a crisp finish.
Bottle at Home
Nice roasted malt flavors but not heavy
Bottle at Pool
Tangy yeast and slightly funky malts. Fine, easy to drink, not great though.
Bottle at Pool
Not a pilsner. Hoppy at front and then caramel/toffee malt hints mid palate
Bottle at Home
Pumpking and solid roasted malts with a hint of spice on the finish. The pumpkin and spice complement a solid malty ale without overpowering.
Bottle at Home
Why did I buy a light beer... For a light beer quite a bit of flavor, but necessarily limited by the low ABV.
Can at Pool
Apple and wheat. Tasty, well balanced
Can at Pool
Medium body malts.
Can at Pool
Big hit of herbal/citrus hops but that faded through the can. Silky, good finish, quite light.
Can at Pool
Smooth, hints of spice but nothing overpowering.
Bottle at Home
Very drinkable. Flavor profile is above average.
Can at Pool
Buttery... more than any beer I've ever had. Earthy malt flavors too
Bottle at Home
Very smooth, full bodied, a nice spiced flavor
Bottle at Home
Standard hefe flavors but an unsettling alcohol taste as well
Bottle at Home
Pretty light yet flavorful and balanced
Bottle at Home
Great maltiness, grassiness, and clean finish although not too bitter.
Bottle at Home
Nice full bodied, smooth pumpkin and spice flavors in the forefront but still roasted malt and coffee in the background, pumpkin and spice aren't overpowering.
Bottle at Home
Not that flavorful, a bit of roasted malt and a clean finish.
Bottle at Home
Ninkasi is killing it. Another great lager. A great maltiness mid-palate but equivalent hop presence to avoid funkiness. This flavor continues, giving a great full flavor although not full body. Finish is very clean, not as crisp as a pilsner but quite good.
Bottle
Cinnamon, a bit too thin, bitter finish.
Bottle at Den of Iniquity
Pumpkin spiced latte as beer. Very sweet, a bit thin
Bottle at Den of Iniquity
Good maltiness, but not funky as some marzens are. More true balanced malt: roast and coffee. Clean finish as well, a bit of lingering bitterness.
Bottle at Home
A bit funky but bitter on finish true to style
Bottle at Pool
A bit funky
Bottle at Pool
Good balance between malt sweetness and flavors and a clean finish. Smooth, grassy flavors mid palate.
Bottle at Pool
Not really a tripel - too malty for that. That said, it is pretty good. Ripe fruit flavors, a spiciness as well that rounds out the sweetness. Finishes sweet.
Bottle at Home
Roasted malts, not too flavorful.
Bottle at Pool
Really great citrus flavors and a bit of bitterness, not too much malt so not too heavy. Easy to drink for a true IPA, this is how to do a session IPA right!
Bottle at Pool
Dumped most of it. There's flavors there, but none that I want to drink.
Can at Pool
Not as overpowering and boozy as normal yeti but just as flavorful. A bit of vanilla leads b/c of the oatmeal but otherwise just like it's big brother.
Bottle at Home
Smooth, banana/clove/bubblegum but easy to savor and no flavors are overpowering.
Tobacco/espresso flavors, clean, no off-flavors lingering
Pretty darn sweet although not too heavy. Kind of like a slight lighter flavored but still heavy on the palate mead.
Fruity at the outset, leading to sweeter chocolate, very smooth and lingering tasty finish.
Bottle at Home
Leads with a nice hoppiness, although resinous. Darker malts lend a caramel flavor on the palate.
Bottle at Home
Smooth, a bit spicy.
Bottle at Home
Rich malt flavors on mid palate, almost honey-like. Couldn't place that before but it holds across all the good marzens. Nice bitterness on the finish to balance.
Bottle at Home
Really smoky, kind of just tastes like liquid smoke. Not quite sure why that's appealing.
Bottle at Home
Leads with coffee, caramel on the palate, nice and smooth and not too bitter but a great clean finish.
Bottle at Home
Big boozy DIPA
Draft at Tap House
Clean and bright hop flavors and a mice malt balance on the finish
Draft at Tap House
Bottle at Vancouver
Really, really interesting beer. Not like an IPA at all, more like a Christmas spice cake made as a beer.
Draft at Alibi Room
Smooth, as unfilitered beers tend to be. More malty than grassy but a good hopping for a clean finish.
Draft at Alibi Room
Biscuity malts, not too bitter
Draft at Tap House
Good maltiness, caramel flavors, bitter finish
Draft at Tap House
Some hop citrus on the first sip, but generally unremarkable after that
Bottle at Home
Unfiltered pils, lacking in carbonation so it doesn't come across as "crisp". Heavy on the palate, slightly bitter throughout with a bit of grassy sweetness
Bottle at Home
Nitro can into Dixie cup. Nice sweetish maltiness, really smooth b/c nitro can, not too sweet overall.
Can at Pool
Not worth drinking unless you need alcohol
Bottle at Pool
Better than Bud... maybe even better than Dos Equis.
Bottle at Pool
Bittersweet coffee notes on the finish.
Bottle at Home
Quite funky. Very interesting as well, the smoked malts are quite obvious and present and the wheat funkiness + smoke is an interesting combination. I would exactly call it pleasant though...
Bottle at Home
Perfectly balanced lager - enough malty sweetness to make it tasty but enough bitterness to keep it crisp.
Bottle at Home
A bit tainted by cigar, but a solid tasty amber.
Bottle at Home
The aging softens the edge of the hop flavors (resin, pine, et cetera) making them far tastier. Finishes with a nice oakiness.
Bottle at Pool
Standard Czech macro
Bottle at Pool
Best doppelbock so far - rich caramel, toffee, roasted malt and even coffee flavors. Must try!
Bottle at Home/Pool
Clean fruit flavors lead, giving way to a bit of wheat and a dry finish.
Bottle at Home
Very smooth, bourbon aged malts at the beginning, finish is drier/roastier than others
Bottle at Den of Iniquity
Hoppy... but not flavorfully so. Just the downsides of hops. And then some roast on the finish.
Bottle at Den of Iniquity
Chocolate, caramel, pretty dry finish. Stouter than an average brown
Bottle at Home
Crisper and tastier than American macrobrew crap, but par for the course with European macrobrews.
Bottle at Home
Nice and crisp, a slight hint of malt sweetness but enough hop to finish clean and stay crisp
Bottle at Home
Bottle at Home
Lots of caramel and roasted malt
Can at Pool
Crisp, grassy leading to some malt and a nice moderate hopping for a crisp finish. Quite drinkable.
Bottle at Home
Sweet, roasted malt.
Bottle at Home
Solid Czech pilsner, medium bodied, starts with a nice level of malt flavor with a perfect level of hopping on the finish.
Bottle at Home
Rich roasted malt, caramel
Bottle at Home
Nothing special, roasted malt and not much else. Decently dry.
Can at Home
Crisp, refreshing. A nice cereal maltiness, not too much but enough to give flavor. Not too sweet.
Bottle at Home
Very smooth mouth feel, Hops'n'malts.
Can at Home
Draft at Taphouse
Floral hop flavors lead, almost-biscuit malt finish, not too bitter.
Draft at Taphouse
Quite malty for a stone - not as in-your-face bitter. Melon flavors, strawberry, hints of citrus, certainly a different hop flavor profile from normal. Definite resin and pine. Dry finish. The hop flavor profile is unique, as promised!
Bottle at Home
Citrus with a large malt presence on the palate giving it a decent body and cutting down on any bitterness
Floral hops on top of a nicely malted body, easy to drink with that hop flavor.
Can at Home
Smoother, heavier Hefe. Not a ton of any standard wheat flavors, just a bit of banana and cereal flavors.
Bottle at Home
Two Beers should really focus on making two good beers before brewing a bunch of half-baked random ones. Pilsner, but weirdly so.
A bit floral up from with some malt mid-palate, pretty much unremarkable and nowhere near the flavor of a true German Marzen.
Bottle at Home
A moderate roasted malt flavor with some toffee
Bottle at Home
Some citrus and resin but not that much, a bit watery for a DIPA honestly.
Like angel's share or fred from the wood but way sweeter. smooth on the palate and quite boozy, sweet and bourbony
Fruity yeastiness leading to a slightly bitter finish making it a quite drinkable yet tasty Belgian.
Huge flavor: roasted malts, plenty of dark toffee and caramel and enough bitterness to make the finish mocha-like
Bottle at Home
Not bad, nothing special though. Pretty crisp,
Can at Home
Pretty well rounded - citrus and resin and a balanced malt character, not too bitter.
Caramel, nut, toffee,
Bottle at Home
Malts are a bit funky
Bottle at Home
Unexpectedly bitter quality throughout - not overpowering or unpleasant but usually saisons have no bitterness to speak of. Tastes of ripe peach, no yeast funk.
Bottle at Home
Quite bitter, bittersweet chocolate and bitter coffee.
Bottle at Home
Very pungent hefe, people that love Bavarian hefes would love this. It's a bit too pungent for my tastes, but still, plenty of ripe banana, bubblegum and noticeable yeast.
Bottle at Home
Awesome beer, amazing that there's this much flavor on only 4.2%. Roasted malt, caramel and chocolate but very easy drinking, not too heavy.
Can at Pool
Might have been a bad batch, but there was a really tart yeast that made it hard to taste anything else. Not so bad that it was for sure a bad batch, they might just have a really bad yeast selection.
Can at Pool
Even though billed as "Oktoberfestbier", this seems like almost a "double pilsner" to me. Large malt presence leads to a great crisp finish.
Bottle at Home
Bubblegum and yeast funk leading to a hint of citrus
Bottle at Home
Sweet and roasted malt throughout.
Bottle at Home
Nice session IPA - good floral hop flavor leads, leading to a not-too-bitter tasty cereal finish.
Bottle at Home
Smooth, hints of orange and a wheaty finish
Bottle at Home
Perfumey smell and on the palate, but a pretty well rounded pilsner otherwise.
Some brown sugarish sweetness on the palate, bitter finish
Rose flavor, not overdone, wheat mouth feel
Bottle at Odin Lounge
Crisp and dry, distinct yeast but not funkily so. Some fruit.
Bottle at Odin Lounge
A nice malt and bitter hop balance with a bourbon smoothness on the finish
Bottle tasting at Office
Sweet at the beginning, then crisp with a decent saaz presence.
Bottle at Home
High alpha / slightly citrus leads, coffee and extremely roasted malt (or maybe just high alpha giving that impression)
Bottle at Home
Oatmeal but lacking in the malt department.
Bottle at Home
Very cereal flavor, not too sweet
Oatmeal, bittersweet chocolate and roasted malts, incredibly smooth.
Had this a lot before, a nice hop presence with a good maltiness behind. Refreshing although very flavorful.
Decent citrus flavor but no real bitterness, medium body
Halfway in between a brown and an ESB, toffee and caramel notes on the palate leading to a decent level of bittering hops for a clean finish. Nuanced on the palate
Bottle at Home
Leads with citrus, on the palate a great combination of citrus, fruit and resin. Finish is a tad bitter but not too much so. A great "true" IPA that's quite easy to drink.
Bottle at Home
Fruity on top of pilsner malt, although unlike Avery's Joe's Pilsner they two don't clash but complement each other. Tasty.
Can at Home
Hints of nut and roasted malt, muted though. The nuttiness builds but this doesn't compare to something like the Bellevue Brewing Scotch
Bottle at Home
A really interesting ale, roasted malts with some vanilla and oak as promised. Lighter/medium body, with a slightly sweet and flavorful finish.
Bottle at Home
I got halfway through before realizing this was a coors product, and I'm quite surprise as it's a very tasty lager. Sweet leads, but some bitterness to balance. Good malted grain flavor, and quite smooth.
Bottle at Home
Too sweet, although there is a nice biscuit flavor at the start.
Bottle at Home
A nice citrus hoppiness up front, leading to a maltiness on the back for a balanced finish. Nicely nuanced.
Bottle at Home
A great balance between malt and hops. A slightly bitter finish (refreshingly so) with some malt on the palate. Quite a good ESB
Bottle at Home
Quite malty, some citrus and fruit.
Bottle at Home
A great pilsner malt flavor on the palate, gradually leaning towards a great spiciness on the finish.
Bottle at Home
Really smooth, lightly carbonated, not much flavor, only a hint of citrus.
Bottle at Home
Not all that flavorful. Some roasted malt but although it has a good body there's not much depth there.
Bottle at Home
Sweet roasted malts and toffee flavors, staying away from some of the almost fruity funk some dark lagers exhibit. Really tasty.
Bottle at Home
Medium body. Vanilla and chocolate, a bit tangy.
Bottle at Home
Quite fruity, a bit of roasted malt, bitter finish. Kind of like a well hopped pale brewed with amber malt instead of pale malt
Bottle at Home
Lots of cherry, clear bourbon flavors, boozy but not overpoweringly so.
Bottle at Home
Watery on the palate, a nice hazelnut and roasted malt finish, but overall thin.
Some hazelnut and roasted malt, and a LOT of Belgian yeast.
Resinous citrus, oaky balancing out the harsh hops in fresher DIPAs, heavy alcoholic flavors.
Can at Home
Dry stout, coffee/bittersweet chocolate and some vanilla? Clean finish, medium body.
Bottle at Home
Sweet throughout... and a more sugary sweetness vs. a malty one, which I generally don't like, but it's a clean sweetness that's quite pleasant.
Can at Home
Leads sweet and a bit fruity, tanginess comes up as well. A bit of cereal flavors on the backend and a balanced finish.
Bottle at Home
Dark chocolate, roasted malt, tons of flavor in general with a slightly sweet but well balanced finish.
Bottle at Home
An unremarkable lager. A bit sweet, but no real flavor.
Can at Home
Average beer, some amber malt flavors and clean finish
Great rye IPA - starts out with citrus and fruit and then a great spiciness comes in behind. Just a wee bit bitter.
Medium bodied, easy drinking but tons of coffee, roasted malt and dark chocolate. Enough hopping to make the finish clean.
Roasted malts, lighter bodied, some coffee but too sweet
Can at Home
Caramel and toffee flavors, slightly sweet finish
Can at Home
Starts of with a basic malt presence, leads to a somewhat noticeable hop presence but still finishes a bit sweet. Par for the course with German pilsners, drinkable and better than an American macro but nothing special.
Can at Home
Slightly tangy yeast, roasted malt but a crisp, clean finish. Yummy beer, easy to drink but a lot of flavor.
Can at Home
Light basic malt without much redeeming hop at the end. Standard German macrobrew (which is much better than the American macrobrew of course).
Can at Pool
An easy drinking beer that offers a depth of flavor including roasted malt and coffee. Enough bittering hop to provide a balanced finish. Some hop flavors at the outset. A remarkably nuanced beer that succeeds where many have failed: offering the fruitiness and citrus of hops with roasted, chocolately malts. Each sip is different, but all are delicious.
Can at Pool
Hops (citrus and fruit) lead, balanced by amber malts offering some toffee behind. Medium body, a bit of lingering bitterness
Can at Pool
Medium bodied, malt notes lead with some fruit on the backend. Bitter finish. Not a ton of hop flavor buy certainly bitter.
Can at Pool
A very balanced bitter, light fruity malt flavor start and leads to a minor bitterness that makes the finish more or less neutral.
Bottle at Home
Lighter pilsner, nice and crisp. Basic malt flavors lead with just enough hops for a crisp finish. Finish is on the side of a bit sweet.
Can at Home
Slightly fruity malt lead, transforming into a nice saaz finish, a bit of lingeringing bitterness. Cereal flavors on the finish.
Leads with fruity/floral hops and finishes slightly bitter and spicy. Quite a hop presence for a pilsner, but lighter than the hop presentation in Joe's from Avery.
