Super sour. I don't know if this went bad, or was by design, but this was not at all a doppelbock. Tasted somewhat like a Flanders Red, but honestly like a mistake. The beertenders were a bit flummoxed as well.
I think my palate was still recovering from the Tormenta, so my impressions are muted. A woody flavor, not as malty as I'd expect from a Scotch ale, which kind of gives the closing impression of a watered-down Scotch whisky. I'll have to try it again on its own.
Crisp cereal aroma, sweet on the palate with some of that barley flavor sitting around. Could have used a bit more in the way of grains. Finish tends towards sweet. Some beers open up as you get further in... this degrades.
Pretty solid double Pale (to be fair... the first I've had). A good execution of doubling down on the malty character sometimes found in pales - not really roasty but a slight hint of that, some sweetness on the palate from the malts rounded out nicely with a bit of bitterness on the finish
Smooth drinking with a great, well-integrated barrel flavor on the finish. Compares well with my memory of Schooner Exact's barrel-aged porter, with perhaps a little less caramel.
Another thin nut brown ale, easy-drinking with some nice hoppiness but a slightly unpleasant, metallic aftertaste. Also, maybe I'd prefer something nuttier?
