From the brewer

Dates, figs and chocolate. Black currants, barrel-aged in bourbon casks. The result is an Imperial Porter with a tart berry and chocolate aroma with luscious layers of dried fruit, oak and vanilla. A fitting tribute to the 25th Anniversary of our flagship beer.

Who's been drinking this

Getting better & better with age.
Bottle
After a couple months' aging, it still has a tart-bitter finish, but one that's mellowed out to the point that it seems like character rather than a mistake. I'd like to try it again with a year under its belt.
Bottle at A Friend's
Rarely do I encounter a beer that I cannot finish. Granted it was my fourth beer of the night, but it was so intensely over the top that I could only make it through about 12 of the 16 ounces.
Black Current and Bourbon aged porter don't seem to mix.
Great smell, complex, caramel and dark. Tons going on in the flavor, but off from the smell, dominated by a heavy, tart, almost sickly-sweet-to-dry raisin quality in the finish. Not sure it really works - sad!
Strong smell, like a tangy fruit, like opening a container of raisins. Leaves mouth somewhat syrupy and the 11.3% ABV is present as vapor-taste in mouth after a drink.
