La Trappe Isid'or (unknown release)
A slightly champagne-funky, sweetish Belgian strong. Lots of brown sugar character. Somewhere between a dubbel and a tripel, I think, in terms of expectations. I might have expected a little more acid, but that might just have been neutralized by the Freigeists.
Bottle
Apple flavors yeast fruitoness, weirdness, very slight yeast bitterness
So, the first taste I had of this, bumming off of Jet, was really good, like a light sour slash lambic. But when I got one of my own, I found almost no sour, and instead some of that off-caramel that I get from barrel aged beers. So I'm left somewhat unsure.
A little musty as how I'd expect beer from monks... I have to be in the right mood but this works for me
Lighter and more fruity than I'd expect from a quadruple. Fruit is harder to pin down this time. Plum like, and rereading my last log, I could believe the raisin.
Just enough fruit sweetness to balance out the slight sourness. It works for me.
Much drier and somewhat more muddled than the quad. It's nice, but lacks the purity of that beer, and maybe screams a little "cave" while it's at it.
Round, light and full of plummy fruit flavor. Doesn't have the depth of flavor I associate with quads, but this is really, really drinkable.
Banana peel flavor at the top. Finishes sweet. Extremely tasty.
Bottle
The scent has hints of raisin and plum. The taste is a lovely quadruple. If you don't know what that is. I strongly encourage you to try one.
