From the brewer

We are proud to add Schwarzeit Black Lager to our limited release bottle series. Brewed with traditional Czech grown and malted barley for an authentic European malt flavor. Domestic and European hops provide a balanced hop bitterness and flavor. This lager has all the darkness of a stout but without the intense coffee flavors associated with stout ales.

Who's been drinking this

I don't know if the previous bottle was bad, but this time, on draft, it was much better. Caramel, mellow and that (subtle, this time) funk-o-lactic finish I like in dark lagers.
More of a fragrant, northwest hop character than I expected for this style. There was the tiniest bit of toasty flavor, but I couldn't help wishing for more caramel to balance and smooth it out.
Smells good, robust. Tastes thinner than I'd imagine given the smell. Has a somewhat metallic mid taste.
