From the brewer

Pike Entire is smooth and chocolaty – reminiscent of small-batch bourbon with its vanilla and wood overtones. We make it by aging Imperial Stout in Dry Fly Distillery Wheat Whiskey oak barrels, which impart creamy vanilla and whiskey flavors. After aging it is blended back into our Pike XXXXX Stout. Delicious with hearty fare like roast beef or country ham, Stilton and other blue cheeses, and dark chocolate desserts.

Cherry sort of wood smell. Decent acidic bite and sharp wood/alcohol presence in the finish. Mostly clean stop minus some tack.

Pours a profound black and smells wonderful. A nice toffee / caramel start, big roasty notes and then a very woody, sap-like finish that lingers on and on. Ten minutes on I still had wood in my throat. Omg, did I just write that?

Smell: wood and dark malts. Taste: soft start, good middle. Finishes like a cola-- somewhat syrupy-- but the woody taste comes out at the end.
